Chicago born and bred, Michael Emanuel majored in Marketing and Business Administration at the prestigious Elmhurst College in Illinois before moving to California to pursue a career in the film business.
An award winning working actor, producer, writer and director with hundreds of TV, film and commercial credits on his resume, Michael has worked along side such Hollywood luminaries as, William Freidkin, Wolfgang Peterson, Armand Mastroianni, Nick Nolte, Dustin Hoffman, Harrison Ford, Rene Russo, Alfre Woodard just to name a few. The quintessential “everyman”, Michael has recurred on such hit shows as WEEDS, THE NINE, MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE and Guest Starred on numerous other shows including ER, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, BEVERLY HILLS 90210 EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS , MONK and many, many others.
One of the most recognizable faces on TV, Michael is also “that guy” in over 250 memorable national commercials. His work has helped sell products for, DHL, SBC, CENTURY 21, SEARS, SNICKERS, HEALTHY CHOICE, MCDONALDS, KAY JEWLERS, AT&T, DISNEY, TYLENOL, GM, SATURN, FEDEX, COMCAST, AMERICAN AIRLINES, HUD, FRIDAYS, and many others.
Moving to the other side of the camera in 2006, Emanuel started his own production company, CANAL STREET FILMS. Since then Canal Street Films has moved to positioned its self as an active force in the independent film community.
Canal Street’s first feature, the suspenseful psychological HORROR thriller The Uninvited (IFC Films), stars Marguerite Moreau, Brittany Curran and Colin Hay. It’s next production, Free Style (Samuel Goldwyn), starring “High School Musical” leading man Corbin Blue, was released theatrically in February 2009. In 2010, Canal Street produced the Native American inspired horror/thriller Maneater (E1 Entertainment) starring Dean Cain. Written by Michael, the film also marked his directing debut. Most recently, Michael wrote, produced and co-directed Scary or Die (Phase 4 Films) starring Corbin Bleu and horror icon, Bill Oberst Jr..
Canal Street’s upcoming production slate includes, the coming of age sport drama Buck Jackson, the horror thriller titled, Forever Dead, a psychological thriller entitled One Night, an irreverent teen buddy comedy titled Gaydar, a Chicago set, crime thriller Juice, a Gothic teen thriller Freshman 15 and a docu-drama about Charles Manson, The Family and the days leading up to the Tate-LaBianca murders titled Manson.
Additionally, Michael is the CEO and creator of the web based digital movie studio www.scaryordie.com. Scary or Die is positioning itself to be the preeminent horror brand in the world. The site will launch officially in 2013 with the release of the feature film Scary or Die and iphone/droid-streaming app.
A true multi-hyphenate and long suffering Chicago Cub fan, Michael is also well known for starring in and producing the modern horror cult classic Lucky.
